What makes YomiKamo different
YomiKamo is a different approach to the same goal: reading Japanese. Here is what that means in practice.
No redundant card layers
No separate radical, kanji, and vocabulary cards for the same character. A kanji gets one card per reading. If a character has two distinct readings, you learn each one on its own card. Compound words get their own cards with all component kanji as prerequisites.
Reading-first curriculum
Characters are ordered by how much real Japanese text they unlock. Each level measurably increases the percentage of text you can decode, validated against published frequency data.
Standard component names
Components use standard CJK radical names that transfer to dictionaries and other resources. No invented vocabulary tax on top of what you are already learning.

What happens after 5 missed days?
WaniKani’s SRS works well, until you miss a few days. A learner doing 20 lessons per day builds up 80 to 100 daily reviews within six months. Miss four days and 300+ items are waiting. The backlog compounds because overdue reviews stack on top of today’s, and most learners reset or quit rather than face a wall of reviews.
YomiKamo addresses this in two ways. Reviews are served in small batches (default 10 items per session) so each sitting stays short. And if you miss several days, comeback mode spreads overdue items across multiple sessions instead of presenting them all at once. You can always choose to do more sessions, but you are never forced to face everything at once.

Questions
Kanji progress transfers almost completely. Vocabulary transfers well for most items. WaniKani radicals use different names than YomiKamo components, so most radical progress does not map directly, but this does not affect your kanji or vocabulary. The preview screen shows you exactly what will transfer before you commit.
Your token stays in your browser and is never sent to YomiKamo servers. It is used only to download your progress directly from the WaniKani API.
Yes. Every import can be undone for 14 days. Your original YomiKamo state is fully restored.
Yes. The import copies your progress without affecting your WaniKani account. You can try YomiKamo without losing anything on either side.
When you come back, a comeback screen shows how many reviews are due and the estimated time to clear them. You can ease back in, which spreads overdue items over several days instead of dumping them all at once.
That is entirely up to you. YomiKamo is free during beta. You can keep WaniKani running alongside it, or cancel whenever you are ready. There is no need to rush that decision.
YomiKamo does not split characters across separate radical, kanji, and vocabulary cards. Each kanji gets one card per reading.
